Course overview

Teaching Assitants work in Primary, Special and Secondary education across all age ranges encompassing special educational needs and emotional vulnerabilities. The primary role of the Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress.

 

What Does The Programme Include

You will be employed as an apprentice for at least 30 hours a week. You will have a workplace mentor or supervisor who will be responsible for your training and welfare at work. You will attend college for monthly workshops.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will normally have gained a minimum of 3 – 5 GCSEs (grade A‑C) or equivalent, preferably English, mathematics and a science or relevant /​appropriate experience. Individual employers will set the selection criteria for their apprenticeship and will include a recognised background check, equivalent to Criminal Record Bureau/​Disclosure and Barring Service (CRB/​DBS).

How The Course Will Be Assessed

An assessor will visit you in the workplace to assess your progress against standards and set SMART objectives.

Potential Future Career

As well as ensuring full competency as a Teaching Assistant, this standard provides a foundation for potential progression into a number of careers paths in the Educational sector including Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Assistant Teacher and Teacher.
