Adam’s in Birmingham, owned by former Catering and Hospitality student Adam Stokes, has been named the best place to dine in the UK, 5th best in Europe and 10th best in the WORLD on Trip Advisor.
Winners were determined by the quantity and quality of reviews around the world over a 12-month period. This year marks the second time Adam’s has reached the top spot.
Adam’s award-winning restaurant has also recently retained its Michelin Star for 2020 and has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes.
Adam said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be awarded number one in the UK and 10th in the world in the Travellers’ Choice Awards for Fine Dining Restaurants.
"This is our sixth proud year of being included in these customer focused awards and it is a huge achievement.”
Since leaving the college in 2000, Adam went on to work as a Sous Chef for Hambleton Hall in Rutland. Since then he has worked his way up in the catering industry, opening his restaurant in 2013 as a ‘pop-up’ restaurant. He won his first Michelin star, and the first Michelin star for Birmingham within an incredible 6 months of opening.
Earlier this year, Adam has opened his second restaurant, The Oyster Club, which is also highly rated on Trip Advisor.
Emma Hemmings, Head of Department for Leisure and Service Industries said,
“It goes without saying how incredibly proud we are of Adam’s journey since leaving the college in 2000. Receiving such awards acknowledges the level of skill and determination Adam has shown throughout the years. He is an inspiration to our students and is the perfect demonstration of what they can achieve when they put their mind to it”
Adam would have learnt the key skills and techniques required to get his foot in the door in such a competitive industry. The college’s very own Gallery Restaurant is rated 5 stars on Trip Advisor and ensures students leave with valuable experience in a real-life working kitchen, waiting on paying customers, designing menus and bringing them to life.
