At Stamford College we take the views and opinions of our students very seriously. We see the benefit of allowing our learners to have an opportunity to shape the organisation in which they choose to study. Gathering feedback from our students is one of the most effective ways we can improve the College for all!
When you enrol at the College all of our students automatically become part of the Student Union. Every year an Executive Committee is elected by the entire student body to act on behalf of, and with other students in the College representation forums; such as the Student Council.
It is not all business though as the Student Union Executive Committee are also responsible for the fun stuff that goes on at College as well! Social events, trips and charity fundraising all fall under the Student Union remit so if you decide to run in the elections to become part of the Committee or not, there’s never a dull moment at New College Stamford! The Student Union Committee also manage their own budget to spend on benefitting everyone who studies at the College.

Clubs and Societies
At the college our student engagement team organise many enrichment activities throughout the year. These include: Supervised use of Stamford Fitness (gym); dodgeball; basketball; table tennis; debate club; book club; gaming society and the LGBTQ+ society, to name a few!
LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students
At Stamford College we support our LGBTQ+ students in a variety of ways; we provide one to one welfare support, non-gendered toilets and run a weekly LGBTQ+ group on alternate Tuesday and Wednesday Lunch that aims to:
- provide a safe and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students and those questioning their sexuality
- offer support to LGBTQ+ individuals
- represent the views of the LGBTQ+ group to the NCS Students’ Union
- raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues through college campaigns
- promote links with other similar groups and organisations, within the local community, regional area and nationally through NUS
- raise funds to support the aims of the group
- ensure equal opportunities and zero tolerance policy

Are you a Young Carer?
At Stamford College we believe that all young people have the right to an education, regardless of what is happening at home.
We know that the move from school to College can be challenging for many students as well as exciting. However, we recognise that young carers face different issues and want different levels of support. The Student Services Team includes people who are here to help and support with this move to College.
Guided by you, we can work with your Student Advisor and your lecturers to ensure that they are sensitive to your needs. You can access a range of support from our Young Carers Champion (our Student Engagement and Welfare Advisors) such as our Termly Young Carers 1:1 session at College, financial support and the opportunity to access further support from local carer’s agencies.
At Stamford College, we work closely with colleagues from Lincs Carers Partnership, Carers FIRST and Carers Trust Peterborough to ensure that we understand the needs of young adult carers. As a result of our continuous commitment in the provision of support to Young Carers at Stamford College, we have been accredited with a Lincolnshire Carers Quality Award which aims to promote a variety of ways we can identify, engage, respect and support our young carers in College, awarded by every-one.org.uk “You Care- We Care”.
