If you want to enhance your mathematical knowledge and problem solving skills through challenging and interesting topics such as algebra and trigonometry, this course is for you. You will explore new topics such as calculus, circle theorem, binomial expansions and how objects respond to the forces acting upon them. A Level Mathematics is our traditional pathway that develops learners as mathematicians, helping build the critical skills needed for a range of future employments and further study. It is essential for those wishing to study for a degree in mathematics as well as many other subjects.
You will study the following units:
5 GCSEs at grade 5/C or above including English and maths , plus 66/BB or above in Double Award Science or a grade 6/B in physics and maths.
Each subject has 5 hours per week contact time, plus one hour of directed study in class.
During the two years of study, you will be regularly assessed under test conditions to practise being able to understand and respond to the questions asked in the correct time allocation so that you are fully prepared for the final exams. There is an assessment calendar for A levels which includes timed assessment every 4 to 5 weeks. Feedback gained from these assessments will help you to develop your skills, target your revision and where necessary enable us to provide additional support.
You will require a Casio fx991 EX or fx991 CW calculator for this course. We also organise industry visits that are relevant to your subjects and, where possible, subject specific conferences.
Maths is an important subject for many careers and a requirement that sits alongside other subjects for study at a higher level for example engineering, computing, physics, sciences, medicine.
