What can this course lead to?
This qualification is equivalent to an A Level and is typically studied alongside two other subjects and compliments subjects such as Law, Psychology, Sociology or Politics. Combined, these courses are the ideal preparation for university, or for careers in policing, probation, youth work, law or the wide criminal justice system.
On successful completion of this course you could progress to study the BSc Criminology at University Centre Peterborough or other universities. Alternatively, this course is a great foundation to apply for other criminal justice based degree or employment within some aspects of the criminal justice system, e.g. the National Probation Service, the Courts and Tribunals Service or the National Offender Management Service.

You must study 2 other A Levels alongside this subject, these could be related subjects such as Psychology, Law, Sociology or Politics.
The Criminology Diploma Level 3 will be studied alongside two other A Level subjects, plus tutorial and career development sessions. You will study in a variety of ways including worksheets, quizzes, research, practice exam questions, practicals, skills assessments, lab books, extended reading, group work and independent study.
Each subject has 6 hours per week contact time, with approximately 4 hours of independent study.
Throughout the two-year course, you’ll take regular assessments under exam-style conditions. These help you practise answering questions accurately within the time limits, so you’re fully prepared for your final exams.
As part of Stamford Sixth, there is a set assessment calendar, with timed assessments every 4 to 5 weeks. After each one, you’ll receive feedback to help you improve your skills, focus your revision, and access extra support if needed.
In Year 1, you will work towards the Certificate in Criminology, which covers Units 1 and 2. If successful, you will progress to Year 2 and complete the Diploma, covering Units 3 and 4.
- Units 1 and 3: Internally assessed through assignments.
- Units 2 and 4: Externally assessed through exams.
For units 2 and 4, you will sit an exam of 3 questions based on real life scenarios.
