Who is it for?

This qualification will provide learners with an opportunity to develop an understanding of adverse childhood experiences relevant to their current or future roles and will equip them with basic understanding of techniques for preventing and addressing adverse childhood experiences in practice.

Children and young people are amongst the most vulnerable in our society when it comes to the impact of adverse circumstances on their lives.

Adverse childhood experience can have impacts on the development and mental health of children and young people that may persist into adulthood and affect their life chances. These might be personal circumstances such as the death or divorce of parents or domestic violence, for example, or national and international disasters. Children and young people affected by such events need support to strengthen their resilience and empower them to overcome their fears and the challenges they face.

What is covered?

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences, learners are required to successfully complete 3 units:

  • Unit 01 Exploring childhood and family structures
  • Unit 02 Introduction to adverse childhood experiences
  • Unit 03 Developing strategies to improve outcomes for children affected by adverse childhood experiences

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.

You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.

We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
