Who is it for?

This qualification will give learners the skills to support colleagues with mental health problems through increasing their knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions and the principles of mental health first aid and how this can be implemented in the workplace.

Around 450 million people currently experience mental health problems, with recent reports suggesting that over 12 million working days were lost due to work-related stress, depression or anxiety in just one year.

It’s important that employers are transparent and open about mental health issues, and this qualification builds an understanding of mental health problems and the support available to colleagues. Increasing the understanding of mental health of staff at all levels builds a culture of care and support.

What is covered?

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace, learners are required to successfully complete 3 units:

  • Unit 01 Exploring mental health
  • Unit 02 Understand how to support individuals with mental ill health
  • Unit 03 Understand a mentally healthy environment

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.

You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English. We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
