Who is it for?

There are 850 000 people living with dementia in the UK today and this number is expected to rise to over one million by 2025. The Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. It allows learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects. Learners will gain an understanding of the types of dementia, the importance of early diagnosis and the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support.

What is covered?

To be awarded the Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care, learners are required to successfully complete 7 mandatory units:

  • Unit 01 Understanding Dementia
  • Unit 02 Understand How Person-Centred Approaches are Used to Underpin the Care and Support of Individuals With Dementia
  • Unit 03 Principles of Communication and Interaction in Dementia Care and Support
  • Unit 04 Supporting Positive Interaction, Occupation and Activity in Dementia Care
  • Unit 05 Principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Dementia Care and Support
  • Unit 06 Understand How to Support Individuals With Dementia to Exercise Choice and Rights
  • Unit 07 Principles of the Administration of Medication and Well-Being of Individuals With Dementia

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.

You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.
