Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) (S)*

The Extended Project Qualification is available for those interested in extending their research and writing skills in addition to their A Levels. You will produce a dissertation or create an artefact or plan an activity in a subject of your choice, complete a project plan, undertake primary and secondary research and give a presentation of your project at the end. You will have a project supervisor with whom you will liaise during the project and who will assess your final evidence.

An EPQ can result in a lower UCAS offer if you are considering going to University after your A Levels at Stamford College. The course can provide up to 28 UCAS points, depending on the grade achieved.

The project is largely self-directed, requiring students to plan, research, and develop their idea with guidance from a supervisor. Taught content includes 30 guided learning hours and is likely to include:

• Research skills, including the ability to search for and identify suitable sources of information in the chosen subject area
• Skills or techniques required for the safe and effective execution of the project that are not part of the candidate’s course of study (e.g. conducting risk assessments, assessing ethical principles of project proposals and research, safe laboratory or workshop techniques, professional codes of practice, ethical guidelines, and research methodology)
• ICT skills to enhance the production of the report and/or the development of the project
• Project management skills, including time, resource, and task management
• The format and structure of accepted academic forms of research report
• Referencing, evaluating sources, and preventing plagiarism
• Presentation skills
