Who is it for?
If you want to develop your professional and specialist skills in hairdressing through the study of advanced cutting and colouring techniques including creative styling and dressing, creative colouring and cutting and cutting Men’s hair, this is the course for you. You will gain practical experience in our on-site commercial salon and develop your hair design portfolio working on fashion shoots and competitions.

You will require a recent Hairdressing Level 2 qualification or equivalent. If you are not progressing as an internal application a trade test will be arranged to assess suitability. Mature students may offer current experience in a salon as an alternative to formal qualifications. Students at this level will also be expected to obtain a relevant industry placement 2 days a week, to support their progress on the course.
You will perform a range of hairdressing services in a realistic working salon environment. You will learn through live practical demonstrations, research and small group-based activities.
The majority of your assessment will be through practical observation. You will complete online tests, assignments and a portfolio of evidence to assess your knowledge and understanding of Hairdressing.
You will require a ‘top up’ hairdressing kit and uniform. Details will provided to you prior to enrolment.
There maybe opportunities to visit Salon International at London’s Excel where you can check out the latest developments, get your hands-on new products and see live demonstrations. You may also have the chance to get involved in competitions such as the AHT (Association of Hairdressers & Therapists) Awards where the College have an enviable reputation for success, regularly achieving top places in the national finals across multiple categories.
We will review each application on a case-by-case basis to ensure you get a place on the course most suitable for you. One of the ways we do this is through a very effective ‘6 weeks to success programme’ that operates from the first day you start your course. This includes support such as: Allowing you to change courses if you change your mind in the first 6 weeks -subject to availability Moving you between course levels if you are finding your current level too easy/too hard -subject to availability Incorporating English and maths GCSE resits in to your timetable if you don’t achieve grade 4 One-to-one reviews with your academic tutor to ensure you are progressing and achieving well.
