The purpose of the Level 3 Certificate in Cyber Security Practices is to provide learners with sector awareness. It will provide the learner with a chance to develop knowledge and skills relating to cyber security practices with the view to seeking employment or proceeding to further study in this area.
There is no specific prior knowledge a learner must have for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 2 Digital Skills or Information Technology qualification.

You need to be aged 19 or over at the start of the current academic year to be able to enrol on one of our Distance Learning courses.
You will also need to be working at or above Level 1 in English.
We will assess your level of English before we enrol you onto the course and can signpost you to our Functional Skills English courses to upskill if necessary.
You can apply for a Distance Learning course at any time.
Once you have completed the online initial assessment, the Distance Learning team will enrol you onto our learning platform and you will be able to start straight away.
In order to meet the deadlines for each assessment, you should plan to spend at least 4-6 hours a week studying on your course.
Distance Learning courses can be studied from home, work, or any location you wish.
They are designed for independent study, and you do not have to attend any sessions. However, your assigned assessors and the Distance Learning team will provide you with support and guidance throughout your course.
To ensure that you keep on track and meet your deadlines, it is suggested that you undertake at least 4-6 hours study per week. You will complete online assessments at regular intervals and the due dates for submission of your work are shown on the platform.
Your allocated assessor will mark your assessments and provide you with feedback and support. It is important that you demonstrate to your assessor that you have understood the question and applied your knowledge to the answers.
If your assessor feels you need to add more detail, they will support you with feedback and you will be able to add to your original answer and resubmit your work.
These courses are part of the Free Courses For Jobs (FCFJ) scheme and are designed to help improve your wage outcome and job prospects and gain skills that employers value.
You will be eligible for funding if you:
- Currently live in England.
- Have been resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years, for purposes other than study.
- Are aged 19 or over at the start of this current academic year
- You must not be on an apprenticeship.
And additionally one of the following statements apply:
- Unemployed and in receipt of Universal Credit, JSA, ESA, other benefit.
- Unemployed and not in receipt of benefits.
- Employed, earning below £25,000 and live in a non-devolved postcode area.
- Employed, earning below £30,491 and live in a Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) postcode area.

If you are not eligible for funding, you can fund your qualification with an Advanced Learner Loan with nothing to pay until you earn over £27,660k a year and we will provide details of training providers who are able to facilitate this for you.
