You could start a career as a freelance photographer, staff photographer with a magazine/newspaper, designer or graphic/ digital artist.
Due to the academic nature of the course and the strong portfolio you will develop, you can also use this course to apply for a number of degree/HND courses in subjects such as art, photography, media, journalism, etc.
Former students have progressed to top universities such as Falmouth, South Wales or London College of Communication and exhibited work internationally.

What is covered?
During your study you will enjoy learning a number of exciting and interesting topics such as digital photography, using the studio, developing film and printing in the darkroom. You will also develop a strong portfolio of your work covering different types of photography which will contribute to the next step in your career, whether that be university or the world of work.
You will also investigate contextual influences and learn how to reflect on your own practice and discuss the work of others.
The UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication, are for students looking to pursue a specialist career in the creative industries.

5 GCSEs at grades 4/C or above including English and/or maths, and an arts-based subject at grade 6/B or above. Alternatively a Merit in a relevant Level 2 Diploma, and a GCSE grade 4/C in English and maths, or a pass for functional skills Level 2 English and Maths. A Merit in your first year is required to enter the second year Extended Diploma.
The course is delivered through a variety of practical and theoretical sessions that explore the world of photography. You will get the opportunity to use our professional standard studios and darkroom facilities and explore your creativity with a number of set briefs. Within the course you will explore different disciplines within the creative arts department such through a series of weekly workshops. During the first year you will gain an additional qualification through Life Drawing lessons.
We regularly go on trips to exhibitions and photograph on location so students can explore all avenues.
Assessment is completed through a portfolio of evidence which will be internally assessed. You can utilise your portfolio to take to University or job interviews to showcase your abilities.
There is a studio fee of £50 a year to cover the costs of materials and you need to provide your own SD card.
On this course you will have the opportunity to visit photography and art exhibitions. The Photographers Gallery and the V&A in London are venues we frequently visit. In the second year you have the opportunity to attend a trip to New York.
This course requires an interview/informal chat before a place can be offered. You will need to complete a portfolio of artwork before you interview and a summer assignment to demonstrate your artistic strengths.
