Fashion Students Support Kettering General Hospital With Handmade Cushions for Breast Cancer Patients

5 December 2025

Fashion students from Stamford College have proudly donated a collection of handmade, heart-shaped cushions to the Breast Cancer Treatment Centre at Kettering General Hospital.

These specially designed cushions are given to patients recovering from lumpectomy and mastectomy surgery, offering vital comfort by cushioning sensitive surgical areas and reducing pressure during healing.

The project began in October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising understanding of a disease that affects so many. In the UK, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. While most cases occur in those over 50, breast cancer can affect women and men of all ages.

Throughout the term, Stamford College students have been busy designing, cutting, and sewing the cushions, developing both their technical skills and their awareness of how creative talents can positively impact the wider community. The initiative has strengthened their practical abilities in textile construction while encouraging important conversations around health, empathy, and supporting others through difficult times.

By contributing these thoughtful handmade items, the students have made a meaningful difference to patients undergoing treatment and recovery.

Stamford College looks forward to continuing similar community-focused projects in the future, combining skill development with opportunities to support important causes.
