Former Stamford College Student Excels with BMW Apprenticeship

3 September 2025

Tyrell Cambridge, a former Level 1 Motor Vehicle student, is thriving in his role as a Vehicle Services Apprentice for global company BMW at their Sycamore branch in Peterborough.

After joining Stamford College, Tyrell successfully and efficiently completed his Level 1 course between 2022 and 2023. This provided him with a strong foundation in motor vehicle knowledge and helped him identify his career ambitions for the future. Reflecting on the support he received during his studies, Tyrell said, “I wouldn’t have got the job I have now without the knowledge I learned at Stamford College.”

Now on a three-year apprenticeship, Tyrell enjoys a balance of hands-on experience and specialist training. He spends two to three months at a time in BMW workshops and then a week’s training at the well-established BMW Group Academy UK, which is based near Reading, alongside assessment weeks and written assignments.

His apprenticeship role allows him to advance his skills by working on vehicles in real-world settings, while also offering exciting opportunities, including the chance to drive brand-new cars such as the BMW i5 M60 xDrive, which Tyrell brought with him on his recent visit to the college. Using the car, Tyrell demonstrated its innovative technologies to current students and explained the opportunities that electric cars and technologies will create for students and the workforce in the future.

When speaking to the new cohort of Motor Vehicle students, Tyrell offered some advice: “College is your one and only opportunity to learn as much as you can before you get a job. Your lecturers are there to help you.”

We are grateful to Tyrell for sharing his knowledge and experience, and we wish him the very best of luck for the remainder of his apprenticeship and into the future.
