RAF Graduate Returns to Stamford College to Inspire Future Air and Defence Recruits

26 March 2026

Stamford College recently welcomed back former student Lucas Durrant to share his firsthand experiences of life in the Royal Air Force with the next generation of recruits.

Lucas, who completed his Air and Defence and Level 3 Public Services courses during the 2024-2025 academic year, recently reached a major career milestone by graduating from Phase 1 Initial Training at RAF Halton.

Returning to his former classrooms, Lucas provided an invaluable “behind-the-scenes” look at the transition from College student to the RAF. Speaking to current Air and Defence students, many of whom have already submitted their own applications to the RAF, Lucas offered practical tips, tricks, and honest expectations for those preparing to start their military journeys.

The session was highly interactive, with students eager to ask questions about the rigors of Phase 1 and what to expect during the first few weeks of service. By sharing his personal success story, Lucas provided the current cohort with a relatable roadmap for their own future careers.

At Stamford College, we bridge the gap between education and industry by providing our students with direct access to those who have already started their journey. Having guest speakers like Lucas return to share their firsthand experiences is incredibly beneficial, as it transforms theory into reality for our current Air and Defence and Public Services cohorts.

Stamford College would like to thank Lucas for his time and dedication to inspiring the 2025-2026 cohort and wishes him the best of luck as he begins his Phase 2 specialist training.
