Stamford College Champions Gender Equality in Motor Vehicle for International Women’s Day 2026
In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, Stamford College is shining a light on the changing face of the automotive industry.
Aligning with this year’s global theme, “Give to Gain,” the college’s Motor Vehicle department is demonstrating how providing equal access to specialist skills and industry mentorship creates a more innovative and successful workforce for everyone.
Nowhere is this shift more evident than in our current Level 3 Motor Vehicle cohort, where an incredible 60% of the students are female. While the automotive sector has historically seen a gender gap, Stamford College is leading the charge in dismantling those stereotypes.
Under the guidance of lecturer Anton, these students are proving that the next generation of top-tier technicians is more diverse than ever. “Across Level 1 we have 6 female students and in Level 3 60% of the cohort are female. That’s a dramatic shift compared to when I started at the College 4 years ago.”
Among those excelling in the course is Level 3 Motor Vehicle student Oliwia. For her the environment at Stamford has been empowering, “Being part of such a diverse group at Level 3 makes a huge difference, I grew up around cars and always found them intriguing, the college has been supportive of everything.” She added, “If any student was hesitant to get involved in the industry I’d tell them to just go for it, it doesn’t matter about anyone else’s opinion, just do what you enjoy.” Oliwia is progressing onto an Internship with Autotech after completing her course.
Similarly Maddy, Level 3 Motor Vehicle student also had family who developed her interest with her brother also attending Stamford College to complete Level 2 and 3 of the same course,“ I’ve really enjoyed the diverse range of things taught throughout all Levels of the Motor Vehicle course, the support you receive from lecturers is great and they develop your skills to go straight into the industry.” Maddy added, “ The course also allowed me to gain great work experience which will help my future career goals of working in a car garage after College.”
This remarkable shift in the workshop reflects the broader mission of International Women’s Day 2026 and its theme, “Give to Gain.” By providing a supportive and inclusive environment, Stamford College ensures that every student has the opportunity to gain the high-level expertise needed to excel.
