Stamford College Fashion Students Get a Front-Row Look at Iconic Strictly Come Dancing Costumes
Stamford College’s Level 3 Fashion and Textiles students recently stepped into the world of ballroom glamour with an exclusive visit to the “Behind the Seams” exhibition at the Stamford Corn Exchange.
The event offered students a rare, up-close look at the incredible craftsmanship and technical artistry behind the iconic costumes of Strictly Come Dancing. From the precision of the hand-applied crystals to the engineering required for high-performance movement, the exhibition served as a professional masterclass in theatrical couture.
The “Behind the Seams” showcase provided vital context for our designers as they begin work on their Final Major Projects. By examining the intricate construction and bold silhouettes that define the Strictly aesthetic, students were able to gain primary research into how textiles are used to tell a story and command attention on a global stage.
This firsthand experience with industry-standard garment construction is invaluable as they transition from initial sketches to their own final collections.
Stamford College remains dedicated to providing students with high-impact, local industry opportunities that bridge the gap between the classroom and the professional world. Seeing such world-class design right here in Stamford has sparked new creativity, using texture, embellishment, and structural integrity.
