Stamford College Secures Global Hat-Trick as Student Jamie Wins International ILFORD Photo Competition

Stamford College is proud to announce that Level 3 Photography student Jamie has been named the winner of the internationally acclaimed Ilford Photo 2025/26 Student Competition.

Competing against hundreds of entries from student photographers across the globe, Jamie secured the top spot with a stunning black-and-white image of a bird captured at a local Lincolnshire wildlife park. This year’s competition brief, “The Natural World,” provided the perfect canvas for Jamie to showcase a talent nurtured since the age of 14.

“When I got the email to say I won, I was in complete shock; it didn’t feel real,” said Jamie. “Wildlife photography has always been a passion since I was 14, my dad used to do it, so when I saw the Ilford brief was ‘The Natural World,’ it was perfect.”

Jamie’s journey into the world of professional photography was guided by a lifelong love for the lens, which eventually led her to enroll at Stamford College. Reflecting on there time in the department, Jamie noted the impact the curriculum had on their development: “The course allowed me to have so much creativity and freedom. You can really tailor the course to your interests after learning the basics. The lecturers are so supportive and will help you with whatever you want to specialise in”

The Ilford Photo Student Competition remains one of the most respected global platforms for emerging photographers, celebrating the art of film and darkroom photography. Jamie’s victory is particularly significant as it marks the third year in a row that a Stamford College student has claimed the top prize in this prestigious competition. This hat-trick of wins not only highlights Jamie’s individual technical skill and artistic vision but also highlights the consistently high standard of creative education provided at the College.

Looking ahead, Jamie is ready to turn their passion into a profession. Following the completion of their studies, they plan to launch their own business specialising in Pet Photography, bringing their expertise and passion for capturing the animal kingdom to local pet owners.
