Stamford College Students and Stamford Rotary Club Unite for Christmas Ukraine Shoebox Appeal
Students and staff from Stamford College have teamed up with the Stamford Rotary Club to support those in need in Ukraine through a festive shoebox appeal.
Working side-by-side with members of the Rotary Club, college staff and students helped coordinate generous donations of toiletries, toys, and treats. Together, students and members of the charitable organisation packed the items to bring comfort and Christmas cheer to both children and adults in the war-torn country, ensuring the parcels will arrive in time for Christmas Day.
The initiative was championed by the Skills for Work & Living department – the college’s provision for learners of diverse Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The department focuses on delivering tailored pathways that help students develop essential life skills, boost independent living, gain practical workplace experience, and actively participate in the wider community.
Lecturer in Skills for Work & Living, Emmalee Higgins, shared, “Engaging in community initiatives like this shoebox appeal provides invaluable experience for learners, whilst supporting a vital cause. We are so grateful for all the fantastic joint ventures we have shared with Stamford Rotary Club so far, and we look forward to many more to come”.
Reflecting on the joint venture, Lyn McSorely of Stamford Rotary Club said, “Stamford Rotary Club owe a big thank you to the students and staff of Stamford College SEND department for their enthusiasm, time, and help in filling shoeboxes and Santa bags with a wonderful assortment of gifts. These gifts will carry our heartfelt thoughts across the miles to Ukraine in time for Christmas.”
Through ongoing partnership, both Stamford College and Stamford Rotary Club look forward to teaming up on many more projects that give young people fantastic experiences while helping others near and far.
