Stamford College Students Celebrate Community Through Collaborative Art Installation at Vistry’s Stamford Gardens Development

Stamford College is delighted to announce the successful unveiling of a collaborative artwork created by Level 3 Art & Design and Carpentry students in partnership with Vistry Group at their new Linden Homes development, Stamford Gardens.

Vistry invited 40 Level 3 Art and Design students to take part in an exciting opportunity to publicly display their work as part of the new development. Students were tasked with responding to the theme “Stamford Community”, encouraging them to explore the town’s identity, people, heritage and character through their own creative perspectives.

Working to a live brief and strict timeframe, students carried out extensive research before developing a series of woodcut-style lino prints. Each piece represents an individual’s unique interpretation of what community means to them, resulting in a vibrant and diverse collection of artworks.

The College’s Carpentry department, who have built a strong and productive relationship with Vistry through previous collaborations, also played a vital role. Carpentry students designed and constructed a bespoke frame for the installation, carefully mounting each individual board to ensure the final piece was structurally secure and visually cohesive.

Throughout the project, progress was shared between the Art and Construction departments, with regular updates sent to Vistry. Working alongside Nathan Smith and David Talmadge from the Vistry project team, both departments navigated technical challenges surrounding how best to display the work safely and effectively on site.

The long-awaited unveiling of the artwork was met with great enthusiasm from students and staff. The final installation beautifully captures the essence of Stamford, showcasing a wide spectrum of creativity, bold ideas, and expressive use of colour.
