Stamford College Welcomes Former Police Officer to Inspire Public Services Students

6 March 2026

In celebration of National Careers Week, Stamford College’s Public Services department recently hosted an insightful guest lecture featuring former police officer Mark Taylor.

This talk provided students a look beyond the classroom and to explore the realities of life on the force. By bringing in a veteran of the service, the College aimed to provide a transparent and motivating look at the diverse career paths available within the UK’s emergency services.

Mark Taylor shared his extensive professional journey, moving from his early days as a recruit to his experiences as a seasoned officer on the frontline. His talk focused on the core values required for the role and a commitment to community impact. He highlighted that modern policing is a multifaceted profession, offering specialised opportunities in fields ranging from criminal investigation and forensics to community outreach and tactical operations.

The session was enjoyed by the Public Service students, who came prepared with a wealth of questions which covered topics, including entry routes into the force, the mental fortitude required to handle high-pressure situations, and the day-to-day balance of administrative duties versus active field work.

By hosting industry experts like Mark Taylor during National Careers Week, Stamford College continues to bridge the gap between education and employment. These interactions ensure that students graduate with a realistic understanding of their chosen paths and the inspiration needed to succeed.
