Kickstarting Careers: Stamford College Sports Students Play Football Match at Peterborough United Stadium
Sport students at Stamford College, part of Inspire Education Group (IEG), had the unique opportunity to play a football match at Peterborough United’s renowned Weston Homes Stadium.
The players experienced using the changing rooms, parading from the tunnel, and setting foot on the meticulously maintained pitch. A dream for many of our young athletes, they gained a deeper appreciation for the industry and the myriad of roles involved in organising and managing professional sports events.
Following the match, students were recognised with a series of awards for their efforts over the last academic year, presented by former professional goalkeeper for West Ham and Tottenham, and current Assistant Manager of West Ham United Women’s team, Jimmy Walker. “The work that goes on at Stamford College is fantastic, and gives young people a proper grounding for a great future”, Jimmy shared. “The support you receive in your teenage years is invaluable. It gears you up, instils work ethic – it prepares you for a long and successful career in whatever path you choose”.
Demonstrating their skills in an industry setting, the occasion offered learners a taste of what a career in sports could entail, bridging the gap between academic pursuits and professional aspirations. Among the spectators was former Stamford College Sports student and Peterborough United Girls’ Academy Coach, Wleed Mazhar, who shared, “Its opportunities like this that give you a good foundation for your future career. I remember when I was a student, the coaches used their contacts to help me to find industry-relevant experience. It’s so important to take very opportunity offered to you!”.
Connor Saunders, Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport and Physical Activity – Football, student at Stamford College, thoroughly enjoyed the day, sharing, “Playing at the ‘Posh’ Stadium was an incredible experience. The atmosphere, quality of the pitch, and the whole environment made it feel like a professional match. It’s really motivated everyone to work hard, especially after Peterborough United’s recent game at Wembley”.
The experience at Peterborough United Stadium provided Stamford College Sports students with more than just a memorable day of football; it underscored the importance of dedication, teamwork, and perseverance in achieving your goals. As these young athletes return to their studies and training, they do so with renewed motivation and a clearer vision of their potential futures in the industry.
Inspire Education Group thanks Peterborough United Football Club for this invaluable opportunity.
