Stamford College Carpentry Students Take First-Hand Look at Building Industry with Linden Homes Site Visit

6 November 2024

Stamford Carpentry students recently travelled to a live construction site operated by Linden Homes to gain a deeper understanding of the building trade in action.

The visit provided the students with a unique opportunity to witness the craftsmanship, project planning and site-management processes that underpin modern residential development.

During the visit, the students observed key phases of the construction process, including carpentry and joinery work, scaffold and safety procedures, and how subcontractors and specialist trades coordinate on-site. The experience enabled them to connect the classroom theory of carpentry techniques, material handling and structural detailing with the realities of working in a dynamic, real-world environment.

As part of the visit, students had the opportunity to ask questions of industry professionals, take guided tours of current build zones and reflect on their own learning journey.

Site visits like this one are a key part of Construction courses at Stamford College, reinforcing the college’s commitment to employer-engaged learning and vocational excellence. The College has strong relationships with local businesses to develop students’ learning and industry experience.

By stepping into a live build environment, students developed greater confidence in their trade skills, sharpened their aspirational views of what a career in carpentry and construction might look like, and enriched their long-term progression into apprenticeships, employment or higher-level studies in the built environment.
