Stamford College Level 3 Business Students Lead Cultural Awareness Event

21 April 2026

Stamford College marked Cultural Awareness Week with a student-led celebration held in the College Bistro, showcasing the rich diversity of the College community.

Organised by Level 3 Business students, the event transformed the Bistro into a vibrant hub of education and heritage, featuring international food stalls and a series of guest speakers.

The Bistro provided an ideal setting for students and staff to engage with one another, offering a communal space to sample global cuisines while discussing the various traditions represented across the campus. This hands-on celebration allowed the college community to experience the cultural richness of its students and staff in a professional and inclusive environment.

Representatives from Christ Church, Stamford, provided a local perspective on the intersection of faith and community history, while the Holocaust Education Trust delivered a deeply moving session, sharing a personal account of her Jewish family’s experiences during the Holocaust to provide the importance of remembrance and resilience. The College also welcomed Cllr Sukhvinder Singh, representing the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara Peterborough, who spoke on the core values of the Sikh faith and the significance of diverse representation.

Kathrine Levy, Group EDI Coordinator said, “Cultural Awareness Week is one of the most requested events of the year, so our approach this year was to work with students to identify and codesign an event they wanted to see. Business students took on the challenge of planning the whole event based on a live brief, from researching and pitching to delivering on the day. They came up with the concept of ‘TogetherFest’; bringing people together regardless of race, religion or culture, to explore our different perspectives and celebrate the values we share”.

For the Level 3 Business students, the successful delivery of this event served as a practical application of their project management, marketing, and logistics skills, with one student saying, “After planning this event, i am now considering studying project management at university.” By coordinating with external stakeholders and managing the complex requirements of the Bistro venue, the students demonstrated a high level of professional competence.

With over 140 students in attendance of the guest speaker talks, some students have already formed a group to work with chaplains to help more students explore religious and philosophical topics and perspectives in further detail.

Stamford College remains dedicated to providing an educational environment that values diversity and promotes social cohesion. Through initiatives like Cultural Awareness Week, the college ensures that its students are equipped with the empathy and cultural intelligence necessary to succeed in a globalized professional landscape.
