Stamford College Public Services Students Gain Key Life Skills on Moroccan Volunteering Expedition
Our Public Services students recently traded the classroom for an unforgettable educational trip to Morocco, gaining vital life skills while making a profound difference in local communities.
The visit began with students immersing themselves in the vibrant Moroccan culture, exploring the famous, bustling markets of Marrakesh Square. To top off their introduction to the country, the group spent an exhilarating afternoon quad biking through the stunning Moroccan landscapes, followed by a traditional Moroccan tea experience.
With their energy high, the students quickly transitioned into the core purpose of their trip, which was volunteering across two local schools. At the first school, students supported children with SEN through a range of engaging activities. The day was filled with smiles and laughter as they took part in pottery painting and organised a high-energy mini sports day to encourage teamwork and physical activity.
At the second school, the Public Services group worked with students with hearing impairments who were learning Moroccan Sign Language. Our students jumped straight into the classrooms, assisting the pupils with their math lessons as well as creative arts and crafts projects, adapting their communication skills beautifully to connect with the children.
The volunteering didn’t stop in the classroom, as the following day saw the students travel to a nearby rural village to help revitalise their community spaces. Working hard under the Moroccan sun, the group rolled up their sleeves to paint bright, colorful murals on the outside walls, leaving a lasting, positive legacy for the village children to enjoy for years to come.
This expedition has been a fantastic addition to the Public Services curriculum, proving that learning at Stamford College extends far beyond the textbook. They have gained invaluable life skills, confidence, and resilience that will serve them incredibly well in their future careers, and everyone involved should be immensely proud of their achievements.
