Tools of the Trade: Former Motor Vehicle Student, Kira Merrill, Progresses to Screwfix Management Course
Kira Merrill, former Level 1, 2 and 3 Motor Vehicle student of Stamford College, part of Inspire Education Group (IEG), has enrolled on the ‘First Steps’ management course with the UK’s leading retailer of trade tools, Screwfix.
“I initially chose to study Motor Vehicle, because I liked taking things apart, and fixing things up”, Kira shared. “Though the work was challenging, it was really rewarding, and my teachers were really supportive. There was never a bad day at College”.
Whilst working towards the Level 2 qualification, Kira secured part-time employment with Screwfix. “It helped me so much with my confidence. I developed strong communication skills, and gained a broader understanding of different trades”, she explained.
In acknowledgment of her efforts as a Customer Service Assistant, Kira was recommended to progress onto the organisation’s internal managerial training initiative, ‘First Steps’.
“It goes to show that hard work pays off!”, Kira remarked. “It was my goal to reach management level, so I was really happy and grateful”.
A proud alumna of Stamford College, Kira has since returned to campus to deliver guest lectures to current students about her experience of the course, the career opportunities that followed, and her journey as a woman in trade. “Be confident in who you are and your abilities”, Kira shared. “Use your knowledge and skills to break down stereotypes, and pave your path to success”.
Inspire Education Group wishes Kira the best of luck in her future endeavours.
