Stamford College's Air and Defence College provides employer-led, career focused education and technical training for 16 to 19 year olds. Our employer supporters will work closely with us to provide this unique and innovative model, which is designed to allow opportunities to explore secure career paths in the Royal Air Force and associated aerospace industries.
Stamford College works in collaboration with the Royal Air Force and its aerospace partners including Raytheon, Thales and AAR Corp to provide this unique experience. Our Air & Defence College programme is shaped by our aerospace industry partners, offering a unique blend of academic education, and sector-specific knowledge / skills that make sure our graduates are work ready. The relationship between the Air & Defence College, the Royal Air Force and their aerospace partners is at the centre of our programme of study.
Our Air & Defence College offers a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about Royal Air Force careers through an interactive programme that combines their academic studies in their chosen vocation with this exciting enrichment programme. The programme opens the door on air & defence careers, enabling students to take a good look inside. Students will experience industry environments, participating in many site visits which allow them to experience first-hand what career opportunities exist. They will build their knowledge and understanding of the Royal Air Force and wider aerospace industries in preparation for their future careers. In addition to site visits they will be guided through potential careers / opportunities / recruitment process from our industry partners, through visits from guest speakers / participation in projects, tasks and challenges. Our Air & Defence College programme means that our graduates are always career facing and are well equipped for whatever their next steps may be — basic training with the Royal Air Force or a career with the wider aerospace industries!
The Air & Defence College at Stamford College is available to students who have successfully been offered a place on one the following curriculum courses;
Uniformed Protective Services
- Air and Defence (Public Services) First Diploma Level 2
- Air and Defence (Public Services) Diploma Level 3
Computing & IT
- Air and Defence (Computing) Certificate Level 2
- Air and Defence (Computing) Extended Diploma Level 3
This combination of curriculum study provides students with a unique blend of academic qualification alongside our fantastic Air and Defence enrichment opportunities.
How does the programme work? Students will complete their academic studies 3 days a week (Mon / Tue / Fri) in which they will gain their Level 3 or Level 2 BTEC Award (see courses above), joining the Air & Defence College 2 days a week (Wed / Thu). NOTE: Air and Defence College programme MUST be partnered with ONE of the courses detailed above.
